April Showers Bring May Flowers

April Showers Bring May Flowers

Hello Nour Friends,

It's Allergy Season! Allergies happen when the immune system reacts to a foreign substance that gets inside the body. These substances are known as allergens. Coming into contact with the allergen causes an immune system reaction that can inflame the skin, sinuses, airways or digestive system. Allergy symptoms depend on what allergen is involved. The symptoms can affect the airways, sinuses and nasal passages, skin, and digestive system. Allergic reactions can range from mild to severe.

Home remedies, like nasal irrigation or certain essential oils, may help relieve some symptoms of allergies.

Some of the biggest culprits for causing allergic reactions are:

  • pollen
  • dust mites
  • pet dander
  • mold spores
  • insect stings
  • food
  • medications

Natural remedies for allergies:

  1. Air Filters: Consider using an air filter in your indoor environments. By trapping airborne irritants such as pollen, dust, and pet dander, HEPA filters reduce allergens in your home.
  2. Local Honey: When a person eats local honey, they are thought to be ingesting local pollen. Over time, a person may become less sensitive to this pollen. As a result, they may experience fewer seasonal allergy symptoms.
  3. Stinging Nettle: The plant is high in vitamin C, iron, and antioxidants, which your body needs to promote healthy immune responses.
  4. Essential Oils: Eucalyptus, Peppermint, Lavendar, Lemon, and Frankincense. Breathing in the oils’ scents is known as aromatherapy. This practice stimulates your body through your sense of smell. Essential oils have anti-inflammatory and antihistamine properties that can help reduce allergy symptoms like congestion, sneezing, and itching.

As we prepare for the Spring season, be sure to take care of yourself and take preventative measures to maintain a healthy immune system.
